How do I prepare for my exam?

There are various preparations required depending on your exam

X-ray

  • Most require no prep.
  • Wear clothing without metal; bring OHIP card + requisition.

Abdominal ultrasound

  • Eat a fat free dinner the night before your appointment
  • No dairy products or fried foods
  • No carbonated drinks 12 hours before your appointment
  • Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours prior.
  • DO NOT eat breakfast

Abdomen and pelvis ultrasound

  • Eat a fat free dinner the night before your appointment
  • No dairy products or fried foods
  • Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours prior.
  • Drink 5 glasses (2 bottles) of clear fluids one hour before your appointment time (water, juice, black coffee or black tea)
  • DO NOT VOID – a full bladder is necessary for the examination

Pelvic ultrasound (transabdominal or with transvaginal component)

  • Drink 5 glasses (2 bottles) of clear fluids one hour before your appointment time (water, juice, black coffee or black tea)
  • DO NOT VOID – a full bladder is necessary for the examination
  • No fasting necessary

Obstetric (pregnancy) ultrasound

Drink 5 glasses (2 bottles) of clear fluids one hour before your appointment time (water, juice, black coffee or black tea)

Nuchal translucency (NT) ultrasound

  • Drink 3 glasses (or 1.5 small bottles) of clear fluids one hour before your appointment time (water, juice, black coffee or black tea)
  • You must bring all the papers from your doctor (blood work, requisition, I.P.S. screening paper, etc) with you to your appointment, and let the receptionist know your having a Nuchal Translucency done.

Transrectal / prostate ultrasound

  • Purchase a Fleet enema or similar product from the pharmacy.
  • Use the enema at home about 2 hours before your appointment so the lower bowel is empty.
  • Drink roughly 4–5 glasses of clear fluid one hour before your exam and arrive with a full bladder.
  • Do not void until after your scan unless the technologist instructs you to.

What happens if I’m late for my appointment?

Depending on how late you are, the technician will try their best to accommodate you. If the technician feels they still have enough time they will perform your test. If they feel they don’t have enough time before the next patient comes in, we will try our best to give you our next available appointment.

How do I book an appointment?

  • You can walk-in or call our office at (416) 247-5486,
  • Have your doctor fax your requisition/referral to (416) 247-5487, then you can call to make your appointment,
  • Or email your requisition to royalview@gmail.com.

We prefer this so that we know exactly what kind of exam was requested.

What happens if I need to reschedule/cancel my appointment?

We all know that sometimes emergencies come up quickly, but please try your best to call our office 24 hours in advance.

Do I need a requisition/referral to come to Royal View X-ray & Ultrasound for my diagnostic imaging tests?

Yes you do. We require a requisition/referral signed by your physician, in order to come to Royal View X-ray & Ultrasound.

Does my requisition/referral have to be from Royal View X-ray & Ultrasound?

No. Your requisition/referral does not have to be from Royal View X-ray & Ultrasound.

You can use any requisition/referral form from any clinic as long as it’s ordered and signed by a physician.

How do I get referred to Royal View X-ray & Ultrasound?

You can conveniently print our requisition off our website and take it in with you when you go in to see your doctor. Your doctor must sign the requisition and choose the specific tests you need done.

How long will my appointment be?

  • X-ray: 5–10 min
  • Ultrasound: 15–30 min

Sometimes during difficult cases it will take a bit longer.

Does it take long to get an appointment at Royal View X-ray & Ultrasound?

No, it does not take long at all. We are well known to get patients on the same day.

Do I have to pay for my x-ray or ultrasound?

No. All diagnostic imaging tests are covered by OHIP. Make sure you bring a valid health card and requisition/referral form to your appointment. If you do not have a valid health card, then you would have to pay for the cost of the imaging tests.

How long does it take to get my results sent to my doctor?

Royal View X-ray & Ultrasound results are sent out within 2-3 days automatically through our fax system and also mailed out by the secretary.

Will it hurt?

No, it won’t. This is painless procedure.
